My name was given to me by my father and my late grandmother who wished for their child and grandson to grow strong in this world. As they were christians, they searched for a bible verse which best reflected their hopes in the man I may become.
"He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." - Psalms 1:3
Though I am not a devout christian, my name has been a blessing to me. Time and time again it reminded me of who I should strive to become. Though as steep of a task it may be, it is my life long goal to become someone who can wear my name comfortably, and as long as this name is mine, I will try to live up to it.
My values aren't unique to myself but they are the standards to which I shape my behavior and actions to. As I am a lifelong learner there might be revisions or additions to these values.
It's very unfortunate that I have to write this, but in the past few years my alma mater has seen her chancellor and staff be involved in some controversy that I personally feel doesn't represent my stances in life. I respect every person regardless of race, beliefs, gender, age. I believe in facts proven with empirical data and respect the advice of medical professionals and scientists that present facts that have been peer reviewed and tested. I am for the progression of society.
